Google Home, that is equipped with Google
Assistant, may have hijacked the smart speakers’ party, but it still has many
things to learn from Amazon Alexa. With the help of Google Home you can have
contextual conversations or throwing images and videos to your TV, but it still
needs to learn a thing or two from Alexa.
Although Google is always adding on new features
to Home, hopefully it will climb up to the expectations of the viewers in no
time.
Track packages
You can just order items with the help of Alexa.
It is more convenient if you can track the orders placed as well. You just need
to say- Alexa, where is my stuff? Don't expect her to give each tiny detail
such as your item is getting packed or what is the status of the shipment. But
it will undoubtedly tell you the day it is likely to arrive. Although this
feature is already integrated into Google assistant. Google Home can also track
the orders placed with any of the online retailers. If you ask Google Home about the location of
your package, it would just say- I can't do that yet.
Delivery notifications
Well, Google Home supports notifications for
calls and reminders. It can't tell you when something is out for the delivery.
Alexa, on the contrary, can do this really well and it is not just limited to
packages from Amazon but also for Macdonald's delivery status.
Amazon Music and Prime Music
Officially supported by Google Home music and
radio services at launch were the Google Play music, YouTube Music, Spotify
Pandora, and TuneIn. At the end of February, support for iHeartRadio rolled
out. With the speakers of Amazon Alexa, You get support for some of the music
services to save for Google and YouTube Music". You can get support for
Amazon’s in-house streaming services, prime Music and Amazon Music.
The Amazon Music app doesn't support Chromecast,
so you cannot stream audio from app to Google Home with an iOS device. There is
a workaround for Android users.
Just start playing music from within Amazon Music
app.
Drag down the notification shade.
Click the Cast logo.
Choose your Google Home from the list to stream
audio via the speaker.
Voice remote
If you just want to control your Echo from
typical voice range, then you just need an Alexa Voice Remote.
Third-party apps
Amazon lets the developers harness the power of
Alexa within apps such as the Roger and the Ubi. One of the developers created
an online tool name Echosim.io. So that the developers can test their skills
without even needing to own hardware. Now you can take "Alexa" for a
test drive in the web browser. Aside from the streaming audio, virtual versions
of Alexa work similarly as an official device from Amazon. You can get full
Alexa effect even without spending a single penny on Amazon speakers.
Donate to charity
If you want to improve your philanthropic
endeavors, then Amazon speaker is the way to go. Amazon gave Alexa the ability
to donate to the nonprofits. You can donate $5 and $5000 for the Children’s
Research Hospital, the American Society for the prevention of cruelty to the Animals.
Routines on a schedule
Alexa speakers have received recent updates that
made routines visible. Only routines of Alexa can be activated on schedule. You
can swiftly make use of Alexa to turn on the lights or play your favorite music
whenever you want to. You may consider it as a small insignificant feature, but
it matters.
